The Pompey Club was
established in 1962 and was designed by Hal Purdy of Kingston, New
York. Some of his accomplishments include the I.B.M. Corporation Inwood
Country Club, G.E. Company Employee's Club, Fairmount Country Club,
Bamm Hollow Country Club, Knoll Country Club, Forsgate Country Club,
Rutgers University course, and the University of Buffalo course. Mr.
Purdy had a resume of sixteen other courses when he designed and built
the Pompey Club.
The golf
course measures 6600+ yards with a course rating of 71.8, a slope
rating of 127, and plays to a par of 72. The gently rolling contours
were designed to challenge the skill of the expert without discouraging
the new and higher handicap player. In 1996, a tee to green irrigation
system was installed.
Our solid cedar gazebo is at the highest point of the golf course. It
is the perfect place to relax, enjoy a cocktail, and watch the most
spectacular sunset.
The Pompey Club has hosted a number of Central New York
PGA, Syracuse District Golf Association, and Syracuse Women's District
Golf Association tournaments. We support various charity golf outings
including The Babe, Lupus, and Cystic Fibrosis.
